Gaza Relief: Aid Supplies Delivered from Cyprus to Egypt for Civilian Population – Latest Updates

2024-01-02 14:47:54

In Egypt, aid supplies for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip were delivered by ship from Cyprus for the first time today. This was announced by the Cypriot government in Nicosia. The relief supplies are to be brought to the Rafah border crossing in the south of the Gaza Strip in coordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent.

The ship was the “RFA Lyme Bay”, a British Navy dock landing ship that had set sail from the Cypriot port of Larnaca. The British Embassy in Cyprus said there were around 90 tons of relief material on board, including thermal blankets and tents, as well as ten tons of medicine.

Last week, the Israeli government gave the green light for the humanitarian maritime corridor following lengthy negotiations. Israeli security experts checked the port of Larnaca. The main problem at first was the question of how to prevent aid and other goods from falling into the hands of the terrorist Hamas.
