A field hospital is being set up in Gaza by the International Red Cross, trying to meet the huge demand for health services, following the start of Israel’s military operation in Rafah last week.
While the Israel intensifies the bombardments in its southern part Gazawhere hundreds of thousands of uprooted people congregate, some clinics have suspended their activities.
“People in Gaza are struggling to access the health care they urgently need, due in part to the huge demand for health services and the reduced number of functioning health facilities,” said the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). “Doctors and nurses are working on a 24-hour basis and are stretched to the limit.”
Staff at the new facility will be able to serve about 200 people a day, perform emergency surgery, care for large numbers of victims and provide pediatric and other services, according to the ICRC.
“Medical staff are dealing with people arriving with serious injuries, communicable diseases that could lead to potential outbreaks, and complications related to untreated chronic illnesses that should have been treated days ago.”
According to the protothema, the ICRC will maintain medical supplies at the facility while Red Cross organizations from 11 countries, including Canada, Germany, Norway and Japan, provide personnel and equipment.
In the neighborhoods of the Israeli armored vehicles
Meanwhile, Israeli tanks pushed deeper into eastern Rafah this morning, entering the neighborhoods of Al-Jeneina, Al-Salam and Al-Brasil, residents said.
“The armored vehicles were advanced this morning west of Salahuddin Street in the neighborhoods of Brazil and Jeneina. They are on the streets within the residential area and there are conflicts.
