The protesters shouted slogans such as “End occupation now” and “The whole world is watching”.
The demonstration took place while President Joe Biden was visiting the venue for the national convention, where he will give a speech later Monday local time. Biden has received strong criticism from pro-Palestinian groups.
– Biden, you can’t hide. We charge you with genocide, shouted the pro-Palestinian protesters.
They referred to the president as “Genocide Joe”, and vice-president and presidential candidate Kamala Harris was subjected to similar wording.
50,000 visitors
Thousands of delegates from all 50 states, as well as the capital Washington DC and US territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific were in Chicago on Monday.
There were also thousands of demonstrators who are planning protests outside the national assembly in support of Gaza, but also demonstrations for abortion, about climate change and against racism.
More than 50,000 visitors were expected in Chicago. Of these, 5,000 are delegates, 12,000 volunteers and 15,000 representatives of the media.
