Gaza: Israelis stopped humanitarian aid trucks, food packages on the way – 2024-08-02 14:23:00

Israeli protesters today blocked aid trucks from continuing their journey to Gaza by throwing food packets on the road, in yet another similar incident, as Israel vowed to allow the continued passage of humanitarian supplies into the besieged and under seven months of relentless bombardment Palestinian enclave.

Four protesters, including a minor, were arrested at the demonstration at the Tarqumiya checkpoint, west of Hebron in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to a statement from lawyers representing the protesters.

Videos posted on social media show protesters throwing supplies from trucks onto the road, cartons being ripped open and their contents strewn across the street.

Last week, four people were arrested in southern Israel after a similar protest by Israelis who oppose the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Hamas-controlled territory, according to their lawyers.

Israeli police did not respond to a request for comment.

The protests came as Israel comes under intense international pressure to speed up the flow of aid to Gaza, where international organizations have warned of a severe humanitarian crisis threatening a population of more than 2 million people.

Yesterday Sunday, Israeli authorities announced the opening of a new crossing in northern Gaza and a temporary port, built by the US, is almost ready to operate.
