THE International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said all health facilities in the southern Gaza Strip have reached the brink of collapse due to the ongoing Israeli occupation attacks.

The Director of the ICRC Sub-delegation in Gaza, William Schomburg, on Thursday (18/7) stressed that the high number of deaths has caused the ICRC hospital and all health facilities in southern Gaza to reach a critical point and are unable to treat those who have suffered serious injuries.

The ICRC indicated that their emergency hospital in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip has 60 beds.

Schomburg explained that the bombing carried out by the occupation army in the Al-Mawasi area last Saturday had caused 26 injured people to come to the facility, including children who were hit by shrapnel.

The ICRC stressed that any further aggression that results in a large number of casualties would force doctors and nurses to make very difficult choices, explaining that the current medical needs of civilians far exceed limited supplies.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pankaj Galdial said, “It is unimaginable how many patients need resuscitation (emergency medical procedures that can help save a person’s life) following the arrival of many injured on Saturday, in addition to the 26 patients who were transferred from Al-Mawasi to the ICRC emergency hospital for treatment.”

“The facility admitted an additional 850 people to the outpatient department last week, with regarding half of them women and a third of them children,” Schomburg said.

The ICRC also confirmed that most patients had been displaced multiple times and were living with limited food and drinking water in crowded areas, which made them more vulnerable to contracting diseases.

Schomburg said since the facility opened in May, his team has served 12,000 medical consultations and performed more than 500 surgical operations. (Ant/P-5)
