Key Details Emerge from Gaza Ceasefire negotiations

After months of intense discussions, the contours of a potential ceasefire agreement in Gaza have begun to take shape. A Palestinian official revealed that “the detailed technical discussions took considerable time,” highlighting the complexity of the negotiations. While the deal is nearly 90% complete, critical issues still need resolution.
The proposed agreement outlines a phased approach to peace. On the first day, Hamas would release three hostages, prompting Israel to withdraw troops from densely populated areas. Seven days later, four additional hostages would be freed, allowing displaced residents in southern Gaza to return to the north—though only on foot via the coastal road.
For vehicles, including cars, animal-drawn carts, and trucks, a designated passage adjacent to Salah al-Din Road will be opened. This route will be closely monitored by a Qatari-Egyptian technical security team using an X-ray machine to ensure safety and compliance.
Israeli forces will maintain a presence in the Philadelphi corridor during the first phase, which is set to last 42 days. Additionally, an 800-meter buffer zone along the eastern and northern borders will be enforced to prevent immediate escalations.
A notable prisoner exchange is also part of the deal. Israel has agreed to release 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, including approximately 190 individuals who have served sentences of 15 years or more. In return, Hamas will release 34 hostages.
Negotiations for the second and third phases of the agreement are slated to begin on the 16th day of the ceasefire. While the initial framework offers a glimpse of hope, the road to lasting peace remains fraught with challenges.
