The flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate was around six months ago – but those affected have to struggle with the dramatic consequences for much longer. That is why those responsible at the Merkur Seniors Club decided to donate 1,500 euros and make a small contribution to alleviating the damage.
“Since our traditional end-of-year party might not take place due to the corona, we decided to donate part of this money to a good cause,” explains Wilhelm Büscher, chairman of the Merkur Senior Citizens’ Club. The donation goes to two recipients: The THW Landesvereinigung Rheinland-Pfalz eV and the Freddy Fischer Foundation from Essen.
Club currently has 160 members
Even if the social activities of the Merkur Senior Club are currently on hold, the members hope that the situation may change once more in spring. Because then the traditional annual general meeting with numerous honors is on the program. The club was founded in 1998 in order to maintain a connection with the Gauselmann Group even following retiring from active working life. He currently has more than 160 former employees.
