The Gastouni cemetery was severely damaged by a tornado in the early hours of yesterday, Tuesday 12/03/2024 which affected the wider area due to the prevailing bad weather.

The tornado caused severe damage to the graves with the church council facing a heartbreaking sight at first light.

The deputy mayor of Civil Protection, Michalis Kalaritis, the deputy mayor of Economic Service, Dimosthenis Christopoulos, as well as the president of the Gastounis community, Yiannis Karambelas, immediately visited the scene where they saw the damage that has been caused, with Mr. Kalaritis informing in turn directly the mayor of Pinios, Alexis Kastrino. According to information, Mr. Kastrinos gave instructions for the competent agency to register the damages so that the civil protection procedures for their restoration can be initiated immediately.

As he mentioned in the ep. Patrice the president of the Gastouni community, Yannis Karampelas, the image presented by the city’s cemetery is heartbreaking, as in a large area the damage is serious while the tornado has destroyed even the tombstones. He described the same image in ep. Patris and the priest Fr. Konstantinos Theodoropoulos who visited the cemetery.
