Anna Gasser celebrated a successful start to her personal season with a World Cup victory at the Big Air final in Beijing. At the scene of her second Olympic gold in Shougang Park, the 32-year-old Carinthian won on Saturday with 174.00 points ahead of the Australian Tess Coady (171.00) and Miyabi Onitsuka (170.50) from Japan. Gasser jumped onto the podium for the 17th time in her 17th World Cup start in Big Air; it was the double Olympic champion’s ninth triumph in the World Cup.
“I like the ramp, I showed the same jumps as when I won the Olympics. I’m very happy, the level of the other girls was so high once more,” said the big air world champion happily. “I hope I can pack in even more style next time. On my first jump I completely missed the take-off and then landed hard. I hope my performance will be even better next time.”
She received 88.25 points for a Cab Double Cork 1260, and at the end Gasser showed a Back Double 1080 (85.75 points). She took her third World Cup victory in the Chinese capital following 2017 in the Arbeiter-Stadion and 2018 in the Vogelnest. She missed the start of the season in October in Chur, Switzerland, due to a bruised heel.
