Frenchman Richard Gasquet, 42nd player in the world, was eliminated by his compatriot Alexandre Müller (126th) 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday for his entry into the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakech.

Gasquet, 36 and seeded N.6, was quickly pushed to his limits, trailing 4-1 with a late break. If he managed to unbreak to return to 5-4, Muller, 10 years his junior, concluded the first set on his face-off.

After an encouraging start in the second set, where he tied the game with the native of Poissy (2-2), Gasquet then conceded three games in a row before revolting and returning to an equalizer game following taking the service of his opponent (5-4). But the latter won the game from Biterrois to finally win in 1 hour 40 min 25 sec.

Alexandre Muller, finalist of the Sanremo challenger tournament, where he lost Sunday to his compatriot Luca Van Assche, will face the Italian Francesco Passaro (N.115) in the second round.
