A gas station owner in the small municipality of L’Ascension-de-Notre-Seigneur, in Lac-Saint-Jean, displays a gasoline price of $2.99 per liter to protest once morest price differentials.

With this coup, Régis Laforges wants to denounce the price he has to pay to his fuel supplier. It would be much higher than its competitors in neighboring municipalities and even elsewhere in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

The situation forces him to sell his gasoline more expensively to his customers, which has a direct impact on his turnover. “My sales went down and I noticed that it continued and continued. I decided to put it at $2.99 on the post to make an impact,” said Régis Laforges. From 4 million liters sold per year five years ago, today he manages to sell only 1 million.

It is important to point out that this coup is only symbolic. Motorists who wish to refuel will pay $1.56 per liter, the actual price that should be displayed. It was possible to notice while walking around Saguenay on Wednesday morning that most gas stations were selling their fuel for $1.43 per liter. The difference therefore varies from 11 to 13 cents, depending on the location.

The man cries out from his heart so that his revenues stop falling. “I want to know why I have always been more expensive than the others for three years, it has nothing to do with it,” he said.

Régis Laforge, who is the owner, but also the only employee of his business, is today affected. It’s difficult to see your turnover falling more and more.

“I’m stuck here from 4:30 a.m. until 11 p.m…. Yes, it weighs,” he admitted with emotion.

He claims to have contacted the competition bureau three years ago, with no results. The federal agency did not respond to our interview request. The man called on federal deputy Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe for help.
