Some motorists were surprised this morning when the price of gas rose by 8 cents at Quebec gas stations.
On Wednesday, the Esso brand located on Saint-Paul Street posted its liter of regular gasoline at $1.749. Several gas stations had yet to follow suit, however, and were still selling at $1,669.

According to CAA-Quebec, the realistic price in the Capitale-Nationale is $1.696 per liter and the average price at the pump is currently $1.707.
Realistic price includes acquisition cost of $1.60 and last year’s average retail margin of 9.6 cents per litre.
“Limit or delay your fuel purchases if possible,” advises on its CAA-Quebec website.
In recent weeks, the president of the organization Canadians for Affordable Energy, Dan McTeague, told the Journal that the price of gasoline “might easily increase by 20 to 30 cents and even reach $2 a litre” if the Russia was trying to invade Ukraine, as it is now.
Russia is the world’s third largest oil producer.
