The president of the Chamber of Fuel Entrepreneurs, Raúl Castellano, confirmed this Monday that the price of gasoline in Córdoba would increase by 25 percent in February.

“February 1 would correspond, as established by law, to the creation of the fuel tax. Until 2018 it was a percentage of the price of the product and from that moment on it became a fixed sum that must be updated every three months according to the increase in the cost of living,” explained Castellano.

“But for two years, perhaps a little more, it has not been adjusted, it has not been updated, which would lead to a very significant delay that should not be maintained much longer because it is established by law,” he added in statements to Miter Córdoba.

Question mark

“The question that remains is whether the recovery of these tax values will be done all at once on February 1 or if it will be done in stages over two or three months,” he clarified.

“The tax has a delay that should be 300 percent more or less, but the tax is a small percentage of the sales price. The incidence would be more or less than 25 percent”Castellano said.

Thus the price of super gasoline in YPF would go from 806 pesos to 1007 pesos.

“From what I have been able to hear and read, apparently the intention would be to bring it to an export value, not an import value. That is, a price such that it was equivalent for the refinery to what it would receive exporting it,” Castellano said.

“We are not at that level yet. If the intention is to take it to that level, significant increases would still await us because there is the adjustment of taxes to which the increase necessary to reach the export price would be added. In short, we don’t know for sure,” said the businessman.

Sales drop

“There are no shortages at this time. It is obviously influenced by the fact that the price rose a lot, but it is also influenced by the fact that sales have fallen. HThere is a decrease in sales of regarding 20 percent. It is a very estimated percentage because we do not have official figures but it is a significant drop,” Castellanos concluded.
