MIAMI.- Gasoline prices in Florida rose 15 cents in the last week dragged down by an increase in the value of oil, which closed last week higher.
The gallon of gasoline had an average price this Sunday at $3.41, while the previous week it was at $3.26, according to the report on the AAA website, which monitors the price of gasoline in the US.
“Florida drivers may be surprised to learn that China is having a direct impact on what they pay at the gas station,” said Mark Jenkins, Public Relations Manager, AAA – The Auto Club Group.
“Over the past two weeks, oil prices have made strong gains on the belief that demand for fuel will increase as China reopens its economy. China is the world’s largest oil importer and, since oil is a globally traded commodity, global fluctuations in supply and demand have a direct effect on local prices, as they always have,” Jenkins explained.
The data released by AAA shows that this Monday prices have remained stable and close to the national average of $3.42 per gallon.
As of this date, prices were $18 cents higher last year, with a value of $3.59. In June 2022, prices reached a state record of $4.89 per gallon of gasoline, something that had never been seen in Florida.
Gasoline prices already seem to have adjusted to oil fluctuations, but the price trend in the coming days will depend on what happens in the oil market this week.

SAVING TIPS
Hay ways drivers can save fuelHere is a list of recommendations from some specialists:
- Driving smoother, which can make your car’s engine run more efficiently. Do not speed or race from stoplight to stoplight.
- Compare prices. Depending on where you live, there can be large or small price variations between gas stations. And even if the difference in price per gallon may only be a few cents, it can still add up to hundreds of dollars per year.
- There are apps like GasBuddy, Gas Guru, and AAA TripTik, which you can use to find the best prices along your route.
- Some loyalty programs, which many of the major gas station chains have, offer discounts and most are free.
- Share trips with friends, family or trusted neighbors who have the same destination or at least very close. Leaving the car at home for at least one day can make a difference.
- Maintain the air pressure in the vehicle’s tires at the recommended values and do not have the car loaded to make it heavier.
