As if it wasn’t already enough, the price of gas will increase further in 2023. Indeed, the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE) has just shared the forecast grids for regulated gas pricesfrom January 1, 2023. So, depending on your consumption, your bill will be revised upwards, from a few cents to a maximum of 20 euros per month.
Gas: discover the new increase announced by CRE on 1 January 2023
Who says January 1, 2023, said bill increase some gas ! Indeed, regulated gas prices will rise by around 15%. As a reminder, this is the first increase since October 2021 and the tariff shield. Fortunately, the latter is there, because it still made it possible to lock in prices for the year 2022. Indeed, according to CRE, the regulated tariffs would have had a 122% increase without shield. This shield protects gas and electricity prices.
Thus, by its implementation, the government has allowed the French to keep some purchasing power as best they can. He also offered energy vouchers to offset rising bills. Unfortunately, this is not enough, especially for homes the most precarious. Shield and assists can’t solve everything. According to INSEE data, between January 2021 and June 2022, the energy crisis (gas, electricity, fuel) led to a loss of 720 euros for the families.
Inflation will not improve next year
Moreover, the context will not improve in 2023. Indeed, the prices will once once more go up! The CRE has just shared the potential tariff grids for gas next year, marketed by Engie and other local companies. As announced, the increase will be around 15% on your bills. It will depend of your consumption. People who use gas only for cooking (below 1,000 kWh per year) will only have one 5.85% increase. Thus, the note, already salty at 171 euros, will reach 181 euros.
Gas and electricity will both increase despite the price shield
People who heat water with gas, but who have another energy system for heating (consumption between 1,001 and 6,000 kWh per year) will have a 10.51% increase on their bill. Indeed, it will go from 370 euros to 409 euros approximately. Finally, households that use gas for cooking, but also for heating water (annual consumption between 6,001 and 30,000 kWh) will be the most affected. Indeed, the invoice will undergo a increase of 15.31%, from 1,453 euros to 1,675 euros, i.e. 222 euros more per year (18.5 euros per month).
Namely, the price shield only concerns contracts at regulated sale prices, whether for gas or electricity. For people who have other contracts, the increase depends on that of the market rates. At last, last thing to know for gas. Some people on the regulated tariff may have received a letter from the public authorities telling them that this highly protective tariff was soon to be abolished. Disregard this letter and stay for the time being at the regulated price !
