Gary Sánchez Returns to MLB: New York Mets’ Promotion and Contract Details

The New York Mets will give Gary Sánchez the opportunity to play once more in the MLB, as the Dominican mask will be promoted from the minor leagues, where he has been all season.

Since joining Triple-A Syracuse, Sánchez has hit .318 with a 1.077 OPS in seven games, splitting time between catcher and designated hitter, which caught the club’s attention for promotion.

Sanchez signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets last week although he had the option to opt out if he didn’t move up within a period of time.

Sánchez has a .318/.531/.546 offensive line with a home run and two doubles in seven games at the Triple-A affiliate of the Metropolitans. If Sánchez goes up to the majors he will earn $1.5 million, plus $1.2 million in incentives, the New York Post reported.

Omar Narváez and Tomas Nido are on the disabled list, which is why Sánchez will take a roster spot for the Mets’ big team.

“We know Gary Sanchez’s career and what he’s capable of,” manager Buck Showalter said.
