The new Garmin watches have just been revealed. The Fenix 7 series adds touchscreens, improved solar and flashlights, while the Epix has a shiny new color display.
The Garmin Fenix 7 series was not presented at CES 2022. It seems that the firm waited until this week to announce these separately. redesigned multisport GPS smartwatches. The firm announced the Fenix 7, 7S and 7X. It also unveiled the second-generation Epix, a rugged-looking connected watch with an always-on color display.
The main features of watches in Garmin’s outdoor range
Lovers of Garmin watches will easily recognize certain features of the new Fenix 7 connected watches. This range includes 3 models of connected watches : 42 mm Fenix 7S, 47 mm Fenix 7 and 51 mm Fenix 7X. Les Fenix 7S et 7 will be accessible in the usual versions designed in fiber reinforced polymer.
There is also an edition called Solar and another named Sapphire Solar for these 3 models. Note that the Sapphire Solar version upgrades the materials used to titanium. A sapphire screen optimizes durability.
Fenix 7 watches all support major satellite systems while adding the L5 frequency range. This allows them to be more accurate in all environments. These new connected watches from Garmin always put sport and health in the spotlight by always being equipped with a multitude of sensors.
In short, the new Fenix 7 series optimizes the fundamental points of the watches in the range. These points have been optimized: outdoor use, performance and sports activity while acquiring new functions and innovative technologies.
The autonomy of Garmin’s new connected watches
As their names imply, Garmin has incorporated the solar load capacity to these 3 new models. The company even said that compared to the Fenix 6X Pro, these new watches have around 54% more solar surface. This surplus of solar surface optimizes their autonomy.
With GPS enabled, Garmin says the 7S’s battery can last 90 hours and up to 162 hours on a solar charge. The Fenix 7 has an autonomy of 136 hours to 289 hours with a solar charge. For the 7X, Garmin announces an autonomy of 213 hours or 578 hours with solar.
Garmin’s new line of Epix smartwatches
At the same time, the Epix smartwatch has also been redesigned. This second watch is what you get by replacing the screen of the Fenix 7 with another 1.3-inch OLED. It is also available in 3 models, but 47 mm in diameter sporting almost the same functionalities of the Fenix 7. The Epix is distinguished from the Fenix 7 by theabsence of the LED flashlight and solar charging.
From the autonomy point of view, that of the Epix can go up to 16 days on a single charge. Its battery lasts up to 6 days with the screen permanently on.
