You probably grimace at the thought of drinking garlic milk. And yet, according to experts in naturopathy, there are a number of reasons for trying the warm drink.
Recipe for Garlic Milk
To prepare garlic milk yourself, heat (plant) milk in a saucepan and let it boil. Then you add three to four peeled garlic cloves and bring the whole thing to a boil once more.
You can season your Garlic Milk with fresh pepper and half a teaspoon of turmeric powder.
Stir well, bring to the boil once more and leave the pot on the switched-off stove until the milk is no longer hot but is pleasantly warm to drink.
Strain into a cup, add half a teaspoon of honey, stir and drink.
Drinking garlic milk is said to have several medicinal benefits at once. Nutritionists consider milk to be the right choice for back pain, inflammation, digestive problems and coughs. But that’s not all.
Possible benefits of garlic milk
In naturopathy, garlic is considered a herbal remedy that has now been relatively well researched. Garlic contains vitamin C, vitamin B6, zinc, manganese, allicin, phytochemicals and antioxidants. Thanks to its antiseptic properties, garlic has the benefit of eliminating toxins while boosting the immune system. It’s not for nothing that Garlic Milk is hyped as a new miracle cure: the list of healthy effects is much longer.
The sulfur compounds responsible for garlic’s strong odor have a mild blood-thinning and blood pressure-lowering effect. From this it is concluded that the tuber protects once morest thrombosis, strokes and cardiovascular diseases.
The compounds are also said to be mildly active once morest viruses, bacteria and fungi. Therefore, the garlic milk should also help with coughs. “It apparently acts like a natural antibiotic,” says Daniela Krehl, nutritionist from the Bavarian Consumer Advice Center, on “Tagesspiegel.de”. However, the tuber is not a food for healing in the sense of a drug, but rather for disease prevention.
Bye bye back pain?
Interesting for everyone who sits too much in the (home) office: Garlic Milk is said to have a soothing effect on painful diseases such as sciatica and arthritis. According to fans of the drink, those who dare to take the warm beverage can relieve back, buttock and leg pain over time, as well as common sciatica pains ranging from the lower back to the hips.
However, anyone who is now totally into garlic should note: the numerous studies that provide information on the beneficial effects of the tuber were almost always carried out on cell cultures in the laboratory and in animal experiments.
In addition, because of its effect, garlic can increase the effect of blood-thinning medication and even block certain medications, such as HIV medication. You should therefore speak to a medical specialist before taking garlic milk, garlic juice, dragees and tablets.
