Gargoyles: The Disney animated series from the 90s
The name Gargoyles may not mean anything to younger people. Furthermore, it isa 1994 Disney animated series. This narrates the adventures of gargoyles from medieval Scotland awakening in New York. This series had three seasons and marked its time with its dark side, unusual for a Disney production.
With a design slightly reminiscent of the Batman universe, the series has captivated a wide audience. Indeed, its scenarios are well developed and rich in twists and turns. Unfortunately, Gargoyles never got a fourth seasonthus leaving some intrigues unresolved.
Video game adaptation
In 1995, the series was adapted into a video game, in the form of 2D adventure platform game. Initially planned for Super Nintendo, it was finally released only on Mega Drive. Despite some flaws, the Gargoyles game was appreciated for its quality animations and memorable soundtrack.
Gargoyles remastered: Return in 2023
Why bring all this up? A remastered version of Gargoyles is planned for October 19. It will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch, under the name “Gargoyles Remastered”.
Developed by Empty Clip Studios, this remastered version of Gargoyles offers modernized and customizable gameplay. It includes a reinterpreted soundtrack as well as the possibility of switching between original 16-bit graphics and “enhanced” ones.
However, one of the criticisms concerns the visual overhaul. It does not seem to respect the artistic direction of the original game nor that of the series. Although this is not necessarily a deal breaker, it is something to consider.
