Venezuelan siblings Rebeca and Francisco García, who are wanted by Venezuelan authorities for allegedly sexually harassing a multitude of victims, were arrested on Tuesday in Madrid.
Agents from the Fugitive Tracking Section, in collaboration with Interpol, arrested them under an international arrest warrant for the commission of crimes related to child pornography and harassment, among others.
Police sources told EFE that the brothers were located in a hotel in the Madrid town of Alcobendas.
Both were arrested a day following an anonymous citizen alerted the police that he had seen them in a supermarket in the Hortaleza district of Madrid.
After their arrest, the officers took them to police stations where they identified them and confirmed that they were indeed the García brothers. However, they might not be arrested at that time, since the Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office had not yet processed the corresponding arrest warrant, according to the aforementioned sources.
Now that they have been arrested under this order, the Spanish National Court will have to study their extradition to Venezuela, which, according to the Venezuelan Attorney General, Tareck William Saab, was processed last Friday.
Hours following the information regarding the location and identification of the García brothers was released, Saab confirmed in a message posted on his social media account X that the arrest warrant and Interpol red alert “were duly received” on May 10, 2024.
The post includes screenshots of Interpol’s red alerts once morest the two brothers, which show that they were published this Monday.
The Venezuelan prosecutor accuses them of crimes of “promoting or inciting hatred, displaying pornography of children and adolescents and gang formation,” the latter equivalent to illicit or criminal association.
