Garanca and Beczala open the opera ball

The program begins with a premiere: Garanca will perform Barcarolle as the first all-female duet with Spanish singer Serena Saenz. “A real hit,” as Bogdan Roscic assures. For the State Opera Director, it is the second ball in his administration: “I’ve been in a waltz frenzy for months.” A big name was also brought in for the Vienna State Ballet’s performance: under choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, the pairs of soloists dance the waltz La Separation by Mykola Lysenko.

Another solidarity contribution

This year there is once once more a solidarity surcharge for guests on admission tickets (35 euros more) and consumption (10 percent more). The money will be used to support “Austria helps Austria,” which takes care of people in need. Last year 600,000 euros were transferred. A work by the Austrian artist Herbert Brandl is the subject of the posters and will be auctioned off at a charity event. Starting price: 60,000 euros.

For the fourth time, the Upper Austrian dance school Santner, under the direction of Maria Angelini-Santner and Christoph Santner, is responsible for the choreography of the young women and young men committee. Swarovski provided the unique tiaras as headdresses for the debutantes.

Mirjam Weichselbraun, Andi Knoll, Teresa Vogl and Marion Benda as well as Karl Hohenlohe and Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz moderate the ORF.
