Speaking via video conference, Coordination Commission Chair and IOC Member Hong Zhang said: “I am delighted to announce that the project is on track to ensure the success of the Youth Olympic Games in January “We look forward to the appointment of our new President, who brings valuable leadership to our team and will work alongside the two current Co-Presidents.”

Kim Chul-min, Secretary General of the Gangwon 2024 Winter YOG Organizing Committee (YOGOC), provided an update on operational preparedness and key milestones towards Gangwon 2024.

Governance

Choi Jong-gu was named president of the OCOG at an official event in Seoul on November 27, 2023. Additionally, a new seven-member advisory group was created to assist with preparations for the Games.

Journey of the Flame

The flame’s journey for Gangwon 2024 began on October 11 in Seoul and is scheduled to pass through 26 cities and counties, including the final stop in Gangneung on December 29. It has already attracted more than 10,650 spectators to celebrations across the country.

Ticketing

Additionally, the ticketing strategy for Gangwon 2024 was presented, with the ticketing platform having been launched earlier this month. Tickets for the opening ceremony are now on sale, while tickets for all other events can be booked for free.

Protection of people

The Executive Board also approved the update of the IOC Games Period Protection Framework for its publication and implementation at the next Youth Olympic Games and Olympic Games. It will first be implemented during the Gangwon 2024 Winter YOG.

In the final stages of preparation for Gangwon 2024, the YOGOC is focusing on finalizing operational aspects and spectator engagement. A recent operational preparation exercise, involving all OCOG executives, was carried out to ensure the smooth running of the Games.

Today, with 50 days until the opening of the Winter YOG, it was also announced that Eileen Gu has been named Global Ambassador for Gangwon 2024.
