Ganguly announces cancellation of Asia Cup 2020, Pakistan Cricket Board unaware

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Saru Ganguly announced the cancellation of the Asia Cup scheduled for September this year.

Pakistan is scheduled to host the Asia Cup this year, but due to India-Pakistan tensions, the event will not be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka are strong candidates to host the Asia Cup.

BCCI president and former captain of the Indian team Saru Ganguly while talking to private TV said that the Asia Cup scheduled in September has been cancelled, but the Pakistan Cricket Board has expressed ignorance about the matter.

Ganguly’s statement came at a time when Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief executive Wasim Khan had said that the Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates as per the schedule.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of the Pakistan Cricket Board has expressed ignorance about the statement of the head of the Indian Cricket Board.

He said that the Pakistan Cricket Board has not received any information from the Asian Cricket Council regarding the postponement of the Asia Cup T20.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will also decide the future of this year’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Australia in October-November and its holding seems to be on hold due to the corona virus.

If these two events are cancelled, it could pave the way for India to host the multi-billion-rupee Indian Premier League (IPL).

This league was supposed to be held in April, but due to the corona virus, the league could not be held due to which India is afraid of losing millions of dollars.

Saru Ganguly said that we don’t know when the IPL will be held as it is difficult to find time in this schedule, we have received clear instructions from the ICC not to talk about the IPL. Can’t because we don’t have time and we have to visit Australia in December.

He said that the ICC is trying to organize the T20 World Cup in October because it brings a lot of revenue to the ICC.

The Indian economy earns 11 billion dollars from IPL and hence the Indian board is keen to organize the league.

Ganguly said that we will try our best to hold it because it is very important for India, we will try to hold it in India and try to find three or four places where there is no corona virus.

In case the league is not held in India, he also hinted at shifting the league abroad and UAE and Sri Lanka have already expressed their interest in this regard.

There were reports in the Indian media that the league could be held in New Zealand as well, but Ganguly termed all these as rumours, saying that these are all stories and nothing has been said about it so far.

It should be remembered that the Indian Premier League has been held abroad twice due to conflict with the elections.

In 2009 Indian Premier League was held in South Africa while in 2009 the first phase of the league was held in United Arab Emirates.aa
