Despite a positive launch, fan sentiment regarding Starfield appears to have deteriorated in recent weeks. The game’s rating on Steam is now at “Mixed” and Bethesda has even responded directly to negative reviews on the platform.
Starfield was easily among the most anticipated game releases of 2023. The Xbox exclusive has amassed a lot of excitement around it, with fans eager to play Bethesda’s latest offering. At launch, the space RPG offered 1,000 planets to explore, tons of quests, an impressive arsenal of weapons, and several companions, among other things.

Players found the game’s exploration to be lacking due to excessive loading screens. The lack of city maps and land vehicles also led to disappointment, and some even felt that the game’s systems were half-finished.
All of this has led to Starfield becoming a rather controversial topic, although opinions on Steam have only declined in recent weeks. The game’s overall rating is “Mixed” while its player count has dropped. In response, the developers released updates to address some of the community’s complaints, but this doesn’t appear to have changed the general opinion around Starfield.

Another answer sought to explain excessive loading screens: “ While there may be loading screens between fast travel, just consider the amount of data for the expansive gameplay that is generated to load in less than 3 seconds ».
Besides responding to criticism, Bethesda’s responses sought to highlight all of the game’s features. They even suggested different things players should do to improve their experience, such as ” Try creating different characters ” where to find ” hidden outposts to explore ».

These responses were poorly received and criticized by Steam users, with one player saying: “ Bethesda’s spam responses they left in reviews are embarrassing “. Another user said: “ I was going to buy it until I saw the developer’s response, damn ».
Bethesda’s responses to the community seem to have drawn even more disapproval, so it remains to be seen if they will continue to post responses on Steam.
