The two games Horizon are, with their open world and their deep story, the epitome of what a single-player game is supposed to be. But that obviously did not stop Sony’s aspirations, which wanted a multiplayer version of its new flagship license.
In recent hours, a leak allowed us to have a splash art but also some gameplay. This last part is available on Reddit, and it is clear that there is nothing very exciting. It is unknown what stage of development the game is currently in, or even if it will ever be released; the whole seems centered on day co-op, maybe in survival mode. Of crafting also seems to be present, according to the icons that can be seen in the lower right.
However, one option seems particularly possible: that of battle royale. This theory is all the more plausible if we look at the image below, which is reminiscent of the artistic direction of Fortnite. This choice can be explained by two reasons, the first being quite simply that the style cartoonesque usually attracts a young audience, and spendthrift; the other is that such graphics give a “timeless” feel to the whole, allowing the final game not to be left behind when new visual technologies arrive.
This point is particularly useful for carrying a deck both on Inefficient PC that on mobilewith the latter option gaining more and more appeal with publishers.
It’s still a little too early to guess, though. Remember once once more that this leak in no way represents the final product, especially since this video dates from 2020. A game can go through several iterations between its first builds and the final version, so we will have to wait for a official presentation from Sony to get an idea of what multiplayer game Horizon Forbidden West yearns to be.
