Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Health reports that the Villa Elisa Hospital laboratory now has Genexpert equipment for the timely and accurate diagnosis of tuberculosis, as its technology allows for rapid delivery of results, sensitivity for the detection of the disease and specificity, as it does not produce false positives.
The determination of tuberculosis with this new equipment will be carried out in the laboratory of the healthcare center, from Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 16:00.
Patients will have access to these studies through a recommendation from the National Tuberculosis Program or from physicians treating patients who present symptoms suspected of having the disease.
The high sensitivity of the equipment allows the detection of the disease from its beginning, which allows the patient to access timely treatment and reduces the possibility of contagion to other people.
The head of the laboratory, Dr. Bioq. Milva Gill Villagra, pointed out that there will be a great change in the service, because the disease can be detected at its beginning thanks to the high sensitivity of the equipment, which allows for a timely diagnosis for early treatment, also reducing the possibility of contagion of the patient.
He said that the equipment will be of great help to the entire district and the region, because Villa Elisa centralizes the samples from neighboring hospitals. He stressed that they constitute support and help for the southern axis of the Central department, including Guarambaré, Villeta, Nueva Italia, Ñemby, and Lambaré.
The presentation was attended by the Vice Minister of Comprehensive Health Care, Santiago García; technical advisor of the Vice Ministry of Health Management and Surveillance, Hernán Martínez; director of Specialized Hospitals, Ana Collante; and authorities from the Laboratory Network, Central Laboratory and the Eleventh Health Region, Central.
