Game abandoned: Serious injury overshadows the derby SPG Wels against LASK Amateure

Alexander Michlmayr, 21-year-old winger from Steyr and former U19 national team footballer, was the tragic figure in the regional league derby between SPG Hogo Wels and LASK Amateuren OÖ. The young athlete suffered such a serious injury (in the shin area, according to initial information) in a collision with an opposing defender in the fifth minute that the match was interrupted for more than 45 minutes and was finally stopped by referee Maria Ennsgraber. By the way, the score was 0-0. But that’s beside the point.

The incident was so violent that it was obviously not reasonable for the players to continue the game. The unfortunate Michlmayr was treated on the pitch for a long time, and an emergency doctor was also there and provided first aid. It was only later that he was transported to the hospital.

There was general shock in the stadium. Best wishes for recovery to Alexander Michlmayr!
