The Gambian government will benefit from a donation of two billion FCFA from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the implementation of a project to transform the rice value chain, announces a press release from the banking institution.
This funding is intended for the provision of subsidized inputs and to support policy reforms aimed at increasing food production, the document states. The project will also build on the fertilizer seed production systems already implemented in The Gambia. This project will use digital approaches to provide subsidized inputs to farmers and vulnerable populations, including women and youth.
In May 2022, the Gambian government requested support from the African Development Bank to help meet its food production needs for 2022 and 2023, in the face of the impact of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
