Like everywhere else in Estonia and the West, Vorms also celebrated the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia on Saturday by placing wreaths at the memorial to those who fell in the War of Independence and with a small gathering.
Traditionally, Vormsi first gathered at the Vabadussøja memorial stone near the church, where Ants Rajando, the parish priest of Vormsi Põha Olevi Church, and Jaak Kaabel, chairman of the Vormsi parish council, held a speech.
From the memorial stone, we headed to the public house, where, according to the custom of Vorms, all the citizens of Vorms were welcome. In the community hall, letters of appreciation from the municipality were handed out and all those island residents, leaders and societies who have stood out at county or international recognition or who have been noticed even on the other side of the state border were noted.
The program for this year’s anniversary concert was put together by Vorms school and together with the students, traditional musicians Hans Mihkel Vares (guitar, mandolin), Monika Väliste (flute, whistles) and Sänni Noormets (violin, harp ).
The party in the community center ended with a festive snack and coffee table set by Vormsi Kraam.
