Zac Gallen retired the first nine batters he faced to extend his scoreless innings streak to 44 1/3 innings, the seventh longest in major league history, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-6 on Sunday. Colorado Rockies.
Gallen (12-2) struck out 11 in six innings to win for the seventh time in his last eight starts. He passed Brandon Webb with a scoreless first inning to set a franchise record with 42 1/3 innings; Webb’s mark was in 2007.
Gallen retired the next six batters, but Colorado’s three straight singles to lead off the fourth, the last by CJ Cron to drive a run to the plate, ended the streak. It was the first run he had allowed since Aug. 2 at Cleveland.
Elehuris Montero doubled later in the fourth inning.
Gallen fell two outs short of tying Sal Maglie (45 in 1950) for sixth in all-time scoreless streaks in history.
Orel Hershiser holds the record with 59 innings.
Starter Ryan Feltner (2-8) carried the setback, allowing four runs in 2 2/3 innings.
