Professional cyclist Felix Gall just missed out on winning the stage on the third section of the Tour de Suisse. At the first mountain finish of the Tour of Switzerland on Tuesday, the 25-year-old East Tyrolean from Team AG2R was beaten by just three seconds to the victorious Dane Mattias Skjelmose. The 22-year-old Trek professional also took over the yellow jersey following the third stage over 143.8 km from Tafers to Villars-sur-Ollon, 17 seconds ahead of world champion Remco Evenepoel.

The Belgian, top favorite for overall victory, crossed the finish line in fourth place, 21 seconds behind, third was the Spaniard Juan Ayuso (UAE/+12 seconds). Gall climbed up to ninth place in the overall standings following 115th place in the opening time trial (+1:07 min.).

In rainy conditions, Evenepoel, who had to get out of the Giro d’Italia because of Corona, attacked regarding six kilometers from the finish. Only Gall and Skjelmose might follow from the leading group, which was getting smaller and smaller. After an attack a good 2.5 km from the finish, Gall even had his first victory of the day in sight on a larger tour, but Skjelmose came back just before the end and celebrated at the end.
