(Ecofin Agency) – In 2021, Ghana’s Asanko gold mine, jointly owned by Galiano Gold and Gold Fields, produced 210,241 ounces. This year, initial forecasts were for production of 100,000 to 120,000 ounces.
In Ghana, the Asanko gold mine delivered 50,0110 ounces in the second quarter of 2022. This performance, 18% higher than that of the previous quarter, already brings production to 92,353 ounces for the first half of 2022, indicates the report published on 11 August by Galiano Gold, co-owner of the mine.
Selon le PDG Matt Badylak, « the increase in production for the quarter was due to improved metallurgical recoveries at the Akwasiso pit which delivered more tonnes and higher grade than expected, as well as stockpile material which performed better than intended ».
Close to its annual objectives (100 to 120,000 ounces of gold), the Canadian company has decided to revise its forecasts upwards. It is now targeting production of 140,000 to 160,000 ounces of gold this year.
Be that as it may, this gold production expected in 2022 remains well below that obtained last year, when Asanko delivered 210,241 ounces. This is due to the depletion of ore reserves from the Akwasiso Cut 3 and Esaase Cut 3 deposits this year.
