Signed by modernist architects Gian Carlo Gasperini e Salvador Candiathe Metrópole Gallery (Av. São Luís, 187) opened its doors in 1960, in the historic center of São Paulo, and with its luxurious proposal it quickly became a stronghold of São Paulo’s elite.
However, at the beginning of the 1970s, the 8 thousand square meter space showed the first signs of abandonment. And the years that followed saw a Gallery without personality, housing services such as tourist agencies and repair shops.
The region’s insecurity also scared away shopkeepers and customers. This was the story that hovered around until 2021, when artists and designers took a look at the center of São Paulo for renewal. The movement started by Paulo Alvesa designer who occupies Galeria Zarvos, just in front of the Metropolis, spread out and creative people gradually started to set up their studios and stores in the region, creating an artistic hub there.
And Galeria Metrópole, with its attractive architecture, has been reborn as an essential visiting space for those who love design and art. Check out 20 stores to visit there below!
