If when opened, these devices have the same dimensions, when closed, we already see the first change between them. The Korean has improved the hinge of the Z Flip 5, to make the smartphone fully closed and reduce the width compared to its predecessor.

If we were to consider the internal screen, this would almost be a draw. That’s because Samsung put a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display in both generations, with the same Full HD+ resolution and support for HDR10+ technology, to improve streaming playback.
The refresh rate also remained at 120 Hz, which delivers satisfactory fluidity for system animations and compatible games. What will change from one to the other is the brightness rate, which has now received improvements and is much stronger than its predecessor.
When we go to the external panel, the differences are much bigger. The Z Flip 4’s 1.9-inch Super AMOLED display has evolved to a 3.4-inch in the fifth generation, with higher resolution and better scratch protection. A pity that the rate of this secondary display is still at 60 Hz.

Samsung preferred not to touch the sound part and kept a stereo system consisting of two speakers. In other words, the good immersive experience is present in them, regardless of which of the duo you choose.
With the same sound, we can say that the power has not changed either and remains satisfactory. Their quality doesn’t disappoint either and provides a good balance between bass, mids and highs. The Z Flip 5 already has Android 13 as a native operating system, while the Z Flip 4 still contains version 12 of the “little robot” pre-installed. As both are part of the brand’s list of cell phones that will receive four software updates and five years of security packages, we will have a slightly greater longevity on the latest Galaxy.
The mobile network supports 5G technology in these devices, to ensure always fast internet. Fluidity won’t be a problem in these models either, due to the 120 Hz rate they have.
In terms of features, both have some already famous brands. We are mainly talking regarding Edge Screen shortcuts and customizations with Good Lock. Too bad the Korean still left out the DeX mode of the Flip line.

In our multitasking tests, we noticed a very modest evolution, with just one second of speed more for the recent Galaxy.
In the benchmarks alone, we will see this improvement be greater. The fifth-generation foldable scored 48% higher than its predecessor on AnTuTu. In terms of games, both are capable of running all the games we’ve tried at maximum quality and with great fluidity.

Samsung preferred not to change the battery and kept the same with a capacity of 3,700 mAh in each other. Does the newer hardware have any impact here? We realize yes. Our standardized tests showed a gain of two hours more autonomy for the Z Flip 5, which closed in almost 24 hours of total duration.
When we go to charging, both are limited to the brand’s 25W power adapter. Even so, we’ve seen the latest Galaxy take nearly 20 minutes less in the socket to complete the process.
With better autonomy and faster charging, the Z Flip 5 scores the point.

The Korean was also conservative in this regard and inserted the same set consisting of a main camera and an ultrawide camera with the same resolution of 12 MP each in both.
At least, the software is better on the newer Galaxy and is now capable of less aggressive post-processing on images. The result appears in photos with more detail in shadows and even more vivid colors. Apart from the night mode that avoids more noise on the Z Flip 5 than on the fourth generation.
Ultrawide also takes superior pictures on the 2023 model, especially in low-light locations. Too bad this wider lens of the two doesn’t have an autofocus, to record macros with better quality.
