The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is Samsung’s new generation of flexible smartphones, with the aim of delivering a compact design and being the most affordable in the family. On the other hand, the Galaxy S23 Plus seeks to be the best value for money in the series of conventional flagships as the middle model.
When we put the foldable and the traditional top of the line side by side, which one pays off more within the Korean company’s portfolio? That’s what TudoCelular shows you now, in this Comparison.

Design and connectivity
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
We have very different scenarios in these devices in terms of design. On the one hand, we see the Z Flip 5 as a foldable shell, which is compact when closed and is thinner than its “brother” when opened, in addition to being the lightest of the duo. On the other, there is the S23 Plus, which comes with a conventional look and now has the rear cameras inserted without a block on the lid.
In both cases, we find a construction made up of aluminum on the sides and glass on the back, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to protect once morest scratches and impacts. The flexible model has an IPx8 certification, which guarantees resistance once morest liquids, but not once morest dust, as does the traditional top with IP68.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus
At the front, both opt for a hole-shaped notch to house the selfie camera. The regular Galaxy is the only one to provide a fingerprint reader under the display, while the foldable has the biometric sensor integrated into the power button.
None of them offer a microSD storage expansion slot. At least, advanced connectivity is guaranteed in them, due to the presence of sixth generation Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC, for contactless payments.
The Z Flip 5 stands out for its more modern and compact design; and the S23 Plus scores for its more resistant body.

Bodies
The foldable model contains a 6.7-inch internal screen, slightly larger than the 6.6-inch display on the regular top. Even with smaller dimensions, it is the Galaxy S line that has the best frontal use, thanks to its smaller edges. Not to mention the presence of Gorilla Glass Victus 2, for additional protection once morest scratches.
The material used by Samsung in the duo is Dynamic AMOLED 2X, but with a brightness advantage for the S23 Plus. In fact, both deliver Full HD+ resolution and HDR10+ technology, to improve playback on streaming services. In addition to the same 120 Hz refresh rate, for great fluidity in system animations and compatible games.
The Z Flip 5 also has a secondary panel on the back, called the Flex Screen. This is a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED, which only delivers HD resolution, but the increase in size already allows slightly better uses than in the past.
Second display on one side; greater shine and protection once morest scratches than the other. We give it a draw here.

As
The Korean company did not skimp on audio and inserted a stereo system into these devices, which uses the call speaker as a secondary channel, to expand the user’s immersive experience in films and music.
The sound power pleases both, although they are not yet perfect. The foldable has a good balance of frequencies, but it is the conventional top that hits the bass more, for a fuller sound.
It’s worth remembering that Samsung no longer includes a P2 connector on its most advanced cell phones, nor does it send adapted headphones in their packaging.
The superior quality of the S23 Plus gives it the point.

System
These devices come out of the box with Android 13 pre-installed, under the One UI 5.1 interface. Both are part of Samsung’s list of models that have received four software updates and five years of security updates.
Samsung’s custom system has optimizations and takes advantage of their high refresh rate to provide good fluidity. Furthermore, 5G technology is present in both mobile networks.
When we go to the features, we find almost the same in them. The list includes Edge Panel shortcuts and Good Lock customizations as some of the main ones.
The foldable can take advantage of several of them on its Flex Screen on the outside, to facilitate access to messages, Samsung Wallet or music control, for example. It lacked DeX Mode as a more advanced function, which appears on the traditional Galaxy, to transform the cell phone into a portable PC.
With the same longevity, the presence of DeX on the S23 Plus ties the system in its favor.

Performance
Samsung equipped the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform in these smartphones, in addition to 8 GB of RAM. Do we have the same speed in our tests? Almost that. The S23 Plus managed to finish both rounds with regarding a second advantage over its flexible “brother”. We can consider it a technical draw.
And what regarding benchmarks? Here the conventional Galaxy already shows greater superiority. It is the only one of the duo to surpass 1 million points on AnTuTu and has a score 16% above the Z Flip 5. At least, all games run at maximum quality and with extras activated, regardless of your choice.
Slightly above in general performance, the Galaxy S takes the spot.

Battery
The Z Flip 5 comes with a 3,700 mAh battery, well below the 4,700 mAh capacity found in the S23 Plus. Can we now give the point to the common Galaxy? It recorded almost 29 hours of autonomy in our standardized tests, with a difference of five hours for the Z Flip 5.
When we go to charging, using the 25 W plug adapter that Samsung sends in the box, both take just over an hour to complete the process. The five minutes less of the foldable leaves this item in a technical draw. What unbalances is the superior total duration of the S line model.
Therefore, the S23 Plus confirms favoritism and scores in this regard.

Cmera
The foldable Galaxy is equipped with just two rear cameras, while the conventional top has a triple set here. The main 12 MP of the Z Flip 5 even had software improvements to preserve more details, but it still lags behind the S23 Plus in sharpness, contrast and, especially, in night mode.
When we go to ultrawide, the S line cell phone also continues to have the best results by presenting less noise and more details than the Z series, even at night. The common Galaxy still contains a telephoto sensor with three times optical zoom, for images of objects from far away without loss of quality.
It’s a point for the Galaxy S23 Plus in cameras.

Their camcorder records in 4K at 60 fps, but only the main conventional camera reaches 8K at 30 fps. Image quality is also better on the S23 Plus than on the Z Flip 5. At least, both offer optical stabilization to reduce blur, agile focusing and clean, stereo sound capture.

The foldable’s front camera is 10 MP, a little less than the 12 MP sensor on the traditional Galaxy. The difference is that the S23 Plus also features improved HDR, which allows for more vibrant colors and less noise in selfies than its flexible “brother”, whether during the day or in nighttime scenarios.
What will give the Z Flip 5 an advantage is the ability to capture selfies with the rear assembly. In practice, this allows you to record from the front with ultrawide, for example.

Samsung officially launched these two devices on the Brazilian market. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 became available in the country for R$8,000, that is, more expensive than the R$7,000 initially charged for the Galaxy S23 Plus. In current retail, the common top can now be found for less than R$5,000, compared to something close to R$6,000 on the foldable side.
Therefore, the S23 Plus takes the final point of the duel.

Finished
In this internal clash in Samsung’s portfolio, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 showed that, despite having its qualities, it is still not capable of fighting on equal terms with a conventional top of the line. Its main attractions are just its more modern design, the second screen and the ability to record selfies also with the rear set.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S23 Plus presents a more complete alternative that hurts less on your pocket. This will give you a more resistant design, a brighter screen, more balanced sound, more advanced system resources, superior performance, greater autonomy and a set of cameras that record clearer photos and better quality videos. and the upper front lens of the duo.
