The Irregular Heart Rate Notification feature was recently approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) and will soon be available in the app Samsung Health Monitorthrough One UI 5 Watch update. This function will allow Galaxy smartwatches to send notifications when heartbeats are outside normal parameters, playing a key role in promoting a healthier life and encouraging habits that can improve quality of life.
How does the irregular heart rate notification work?
Galaxy Watch 6 measuring heart rate
The Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature works in conjunction with the Blood Pressure Monitoring and Electrocardiogram (ECG) options, analyzing the heartbeat for signs of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) directly of the Galaxy Watch6 on the user’s wrist. The feature operates in the background, not requiring the user to manually access the function, as it is always active while the watch is in use.
As the name suggests, the IHRN sends notifications if the heart rate is above or below BPMs (Beats Per Minute) preconfigured in the Samsung Health Monitor app. This analysis allows the watch to detect the presence of Atrial Fibrillation, a common arrhythmia which, depending on the diagnosis, can be temporary or permanent.
Importance of detecting irregular heartbeats
Detecting irregular heartbeats is crucial for cardiovascular health. Any irregularity in the heart rhythm can lead to serious problems such as heart failure or stroke. Please note that the Irregular Heart Rate Notification feature does not identify heart attacks. If an alert is received on the watch, the recommendation is to contact a physician for proper evaluation.
Soon, One UI 5 Watch update with Irregular Heart Rate Notification feature will be available on all Galaxy Watch equipped with BioActive sensor. This includes the newly released Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, with other models getting the update later.
