During SDC23 (Samsung Developers Conference 2023) in October last year, South Korean engineer Shin-Chul Baik gave an interview to the SamMobile portal, citing that the company was considering expanding support for security updates to more than five years, but did not confirm any changes to its policy.
According to the Android Headlines website, Samsung might make an important change with the Galaxy S24 line. He says that the South Korean company will offer seven years of software updates, but does not specify whether this will apply to versions of Android and One UI or just security packages.
It will also be interesting whether the company will expand software support to other existing devices, such as the Galaxy S23 line and the new generation of foldable Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5.
It’s worth remembering that Samsung included new and old devices when it changed its policy from two major Android updates to three and then to four.
This information will be confirmed next week, during Galaxy Unpacked 2024. Scheduled for January 17th, it will officially reveal the Galaxy S24 line and other news from the South Korean company.
