Galaxy S23 Ultra review: battery life and charging speed

One of the big questions regarding the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is how good the battery life is thanks to the also new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. GSMArena is currently putting a test device through its paces and has summarized the first values for the battery. According to this, the new model surpasses the predecessor Galaxy S22 Ultra in the endurance rating by 18 hours.

Perhaps more importantly, the new Samsung flagship also beat its predecessor in all onscreen tests. It managed 4 more hours of web browsing and 5 more hours of video playback. The test results are even more impressive considering that the Galaxy S23 Ultra works with the same battery capacity.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra also shows strong performance compared to the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, which has been a point of criticism at Samsung for years. It was 5 hours ahead of the iPhone in the overall rating, and a full 12 hours in terms of talk time. In the screen tests, however, the iPhone 14 Pro Max was still ahead.

When it comes to charging, nothing has changed on paper. Charging processes are still technically limited to 45 watts, with the Galaxy S23 Ultra reaching a battery level of 68% in 30 minutes – 8% more than its predecessor. However, both completed the 0-100% charge test in the same 59 minutes. Interestingly, the Galaxy S22 Ultra was faster in both the 30 minute test and the 0-100% test when using the slower 25 watt Samsung adapter.
