Do you have a Galaxy A33 and thinking regarding switching to the A34? Does Samsung’s new intermediary bring many advances to justify the upgrade? That’s what this TudoCelular comparison will help to untangle. Let’s analyze each aspect to find out what has evolved and what remains the same as before.

Samsung Galaxy A34
Samsung Galaxy A33
What changes in design in the new generation? Looking ahead we see that little has changed. Samsung decided to keep the drop-shaped notch from before, which is disappointing for a launch in this segment in 2023. At least the edges have shrunk to house a larger screen. At the rear we have a more minimalist look with the removal of the camera block.
It’s good to see that Samsung hasn’t changed the measurements of its intermediate so much and we have almost the same size as before, but a little heavier. It wasn’t this time that we had a premium device with a metal body and a glass back. Both have a plastic body with a matte finish on the sides and back.
IP67 certification has been maintained to ensure resistance once morest water and dust. For the orphans of the headphone jack, we’ve seen no change this generation. At least the microSD slot is still present in the hybrid drawer. The biometric reader remains under the display with the same optical technology as before and responds well without failing.
In terms of connectivity, we only had to advance Bluetooth, which is now 5.3 in the new generation. Both bring fifth-generation Wi-Fi, NFC and 5G support.
We started with the first victory for the A34.

The screen has grown from 6.4 to 6.6 inches in the new generation. The resolution follows Full HD + and the panel adopted is of the Super AMOLED type. The advances are for the superior brightness level that makes the A34 better for use in open places, in addition to the refresh rate that has increased from 90 to 120 Hz, which guarantees superior fluidity.
Both feature similar wide viewing angles and contrast. None support HDR to enjoy supported videos on streaming services. Native calibration leans toward cool tones on both, though there are plenty of options in the settings to tweak to your liking.
As much as the Galaxy A34 comes with a screen with a higher refresh rate, it does not have an automatic mode that changes speed according to demand to help with battery life.
Still, he has the better screen of the two and takes one more point.

As
Both deliver stereo sound thanks to the call speaker that acts as a secondary channel. It’s less powerful than the sound output on the bottom of both models, but it doesn’t quite compromise the immersion.
By the way, it seems that Samsung has decided not to change the speakers of the Galaxy A34, since we have the same power and sound quality as before. There’s a good balance between bass, mids and highs for a good movie and gaming experience.

Software
In software we can give victory to the Galaxy A34. That’s not to say that the One UI on it is better than the old model, just the fact that both will receive four Android updates and five years of security updates. As the most recent one comes with a more current version of the little robot, it ends up having an advantage.
The features are the same in both, with a system full of One UI features and customization options. You can leave the Always-on Display to your liking, as well as the interface using themes. There’s the Edge Panel to add the shortcuts you use most and have your favorite apps always at hand.
We will point to the Galaxy A34.

Performance
Samsung decided to drop its Exynos 1280 chip and adopted the Dimensity 1080 in the Galaxy A34. What changes is the maximum speed of the processor to ensure greater power in handling multiple tasks at the same time. In our speed test, we had a significant gain in performance with the new model being more agile when dealing with several apps open at the same time.
Don’t expect a huge jump in benchmark results. The difference in the raw power of each chip is small and in AnTuTu we have a difference of less than 10%. And in games? The Galaxy A34 also takes advantage of the GPU and manages to run some heavier games at high quality, while the predecessor is limited to a lower configuration.
Point for the Galaxy A34 in performance.

Battery
We had no change in battery capacity, which remains at 5,000 mAh from before. And even with the increase in screen size, the Galaxy A34 yielded a little more in our standardized test, which shows that MediaTek’s hardware is quite efficient.
Although both come with a 15W charger in the box, the latest model takes longer to recharge. Perhaps the power management of the new hardware is limiting the battery’s ability to recharge. Anyway, both support more powerful chargers of up to 25W.
As none stand out in drums, we will give each one a point.

The only change Samsung made to the Galaxy A34’s photographic set was removing the depth camera present on the A33. With that, we have the same 48 MP, 8 MP ultra-wide and 5 MP macro sensors as before. Does this mean that both deliver similar photographic quality?
There are slight differences here and there, but overall the quality of the photos is quite similar between the two generations. The Galaxy A33 has greater sharpness near the edges, while the A34 handles noise better in the darkest parts. Both feature good dynamic range and competent HDR to record quality photos in any scenario.
The ultra-wide and macro also show similar quality across generations. It would be interesting if Samsung had adopted autofocus in this camera to give more flexibility when photographing small objects. The removal of the depth camera is not missing in the new generation and we have a good blur effect.
One point for each on camera.

Samsung also decided to reuse the front camera of its predecessor and here we have a 13 MP sensor in both. Selfies have good detail, correct skin tone, high contrast and decent dynamic range. Night shots don’t suffer from noise and we get clean images. Background blur works well in any light situation.
Since none stand out in selfies, we’ll give each one a point.

Finally, the camcorder. Here we also had no changes since the photographic set is the same. The two can shoot in 4K with the main lens on the rear and front, while the ultra-wide lens is limited to Full HD resolution.
There is optical and electronic stabilization to deal with shakes, focusing is quite agile and stereo sound capture is of good quality. The front camcorder presents shakier videos, but does not suffer from very dark footage at night.

The Galaxy A33 arrived in Brazil in April 2022 for R$ 2,699. The A34 arrived a year later for R$2,599 at launch. It’s interesting to see a more current model debut at a lower price than its predecessor. And even now in mid-2023, the A34 is still cheaper, which makes its cost-effectiveness superior.
We close the comparison with the last point for the A34.

We reached the end of our comparison with the Galaxy A34 winning with twice as many points. This shows that Samsung’s new cell phone brings good advances and with the currently lower price, it is undoubtedly the best buy.
Is it worth changing the A33 for the new one? You’ll get a phone with a more modern design, a bigger screen with higher brightness and a 120Hz rate, faster performance, better battery life and an extra year of Android updates.
