The Galaxy A14 and Moto G23 are two entry-level smartphones that do not offer a 5G mobile network and seek to provide a set without powerful specifications, to lower the cost for the consumer. Even so, they still bring some differences to the category.

In this clash between Samsung’s basics and Motorola’s, which device has the greatest benefits for the user? The TudoCelular Comparison tells you the answer in detail now.

Design and connectivity

Samsung Galaxy A14 4G

Despite being more modest models, both have some features to make them appear more expensive. At the back, we have the cameras distributed individually on the Galaxy, while the Moto uses the more compact square block that the brand has used since the tops. At the front, only the G23 comes with a hole notch. The A14 still contains the more conventional teardrop notch.

When we go to construction, the two opt for an entire plastic composition, with a matte finish. Motorola still stands out for having the most compact and lightest body of the duo.

Motorola Moto G23

As we are talking regarding two entry-level cell phones, don’t expect any protection once morest dust and liquids from them. The manufacturers are also similar in the biometric reader integrated into the power button.

The duo delivers storage expansion. What changes is the Korean’s dedicated slot, which allows you to keep two operator chips and the microSD card. In connectivity, both the Samsung and Motorola models come with fifth-generation Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1.

We start with a point for the Moto G23.

These smartphones have an LCD-type panel and are not impressive in terms of contrast or viewing angle. Their brightness may even be above average for the segment, but it is still below other models with the AMOLED type. There is also no support for HDR10+ here, to improve reproduction on streaming services.

The A14’s display is 6.6 inches and Full HD+ resolution. It is a little larger than the 6.5-inch G23, in addition to having a higher definition than the rival’s HD+. The Moto responds with greater frontal use and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, which makes a big difference in this category, by offering greater fluidity in the system’s animations compared to the 60 Hz present in the Galaxy.

Motorola keeps the point across the screen more smoothly.

Samsung saved on audio and left only a mono sound output on its basic one. Motorola has inserted a stereo system, which uses the call speaker as a secondary channel, to offer a greater immersive experience to the user.

The Galaxy’s sound power may be above average for the category, but it doesn’t reach that of the Moto. The quality doesn’t disappoint either, with a good balance between frequencies. Both contain a standard 3.5 mm connector, but they do not come with a standard headphone jack in the package.

The stereo sound sets the point for the Moto G.

Both devices come out of the box with Android 13 from the factory. The A14 may not be on the list of many Korean software updates, but it should still receive more updates from the “little robot” than the G23.

These models do not support 5G, which prevents you from having a faster mobile network with the limitations of the fourth generation. In terms of fluidity, Samsung is betting on One UI Core, the leanest version of its interface. On the other hand, in addition to Motorola already offering a cleaner system normally, it is also favored by the higher refresh rate.

When we go to the features, the Galaxy left out the Edge Panel and Secure Folder shortcuts, but still features the split screen and the power button as a shortcut. In turn, Moto stands out for its famous gestures to turn on the flashlight and open the camera more quickly.

The A14 stands out for its superior longevity; and the G23 is noted for offering greater fluidity.

Performance

The Galaxy arrived in Brazil with the Exynos 850 chip. The Moto is powered by the Helio G85 platform. Both also provide 4 GB of RAM. And how do they fare in performance? The G23 was the fastest of the pair in our tests, registering almost 1 minute and 15 seconds ahead of the A14.

The benchmarks confirm what we saw in the multitasking experiments. Motorola’s cell phone wins in all indicators, with a score practically 48% higher than its Korean competitor on AnTuTu. Each person’s GPU is still capable of running complex games at average quality, even if they are far from perfect for this function.

With the best performance in all scenarios, the Moto G takes another point.

Battery

These are two more devices equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, a capacity that has become almost a market standard. But that doesn’t mean they reach the same duration away from the outlet. Our standardized tests indicated an advantage of more than three hours for the A14, which had a total autonomy of almost 28 hours.

Moving on to charging, even with the weakest adapter of the pair, with just 15 W of power, the Galaxy finishes the process faster, in just under two hours. Unlike the Moto, which takes 2 hours and 10 minutes to reach 100%, with its 20 W TurboPower.

This is an easy point for Samsung.

The photographic set of both is identical on paper. This means that we find a 50 MP main camera, a 5 MP ultrawide camera and a 2 MP macro camera. Can we draw now?

The Galaxy and Moto take good photos in well-lit locations, within the limitations of the hardware. At night, the A14 does not have a night mode like the G23, but images from both in dark places are not disposable.

Their ultrawide already displays different colors than the main one and has a drop in sharpness, but it still manages to capture good images during the day. The macro is the weakest of the duo, as it has low resolution and does not come with autofocus.

Their camcorder only records in Full HD resolution at 30 fps. The two are similar in their agile focus and lack of a stabilization system, to better deal with shakes. What will change between them is in the sound. The Galaxy delivers good quality stereo audio capture, unlike the Moto’s mono audio capture.

The duo’s front camera is capable of recording good selfies in bright places. Both work well in portrait mode, but the Galaxy doesn’t let the background get blown out. At night, the smaller focal aperture of the Moto’s lens ends up making the shots darker than those of the rival. Front-facing footage is restricted to Full HD resolution.

Samsung scores once once more.

These devices were officially launched on the Brazilian market by their respective manufacturers. The Galaxy A14 4G arrived in the country for a suggested price of R$1,500, a little cheaper than the R$1,600 initially charged for the Moto G23.

The difference between them continues even in current retail, but both are found at lower prices. The Korean one appears in the R$700 range, while the Motorola competitor costs around R$800.

As any economy has an impact on the consumer’s pocket, the final point goes to Samsung.

Finished

The duel between basic cell phones from Samsung and Motorola ended with a draw on the scoreboard. The Galaxy A14 was superior in terms of software longevity, longer battery life and shorter recharge time, in addition to the camera set that has better sound capture in videos and better selfies in portrait mode and at night, even if the rear photos are balanced with the rival.

And speaking of the Moto G23, it stands out for having the most compact and lightest design, the smoothest screen, stereo sound, the most fluid system and the most efficient multitasking performance of the duo.

If the analysis is just for the price, the A14 tends to hurt your pocket less. However, for a small difference nowadays, it is worth considering whether it is worth having a device that is more sophisticated in terms of multimedia and performance.

RESULT

Samsung Galaxy A14 4G: 6 POINTS
