JEDDAH – The mobile phone caller name and identity law will come into effect from October 1, 2023. The digital regulator Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has completed all the preparations in this regard.
It is expected that the new system will help prevent anonymous calls and related scams to some extent. A system will be set up where the name and number of the caller can be seen in the call log. Mobile network companies should also be prepared to display the caller’s name and number on all generations including 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G.
This is an additional feature that enables the identity of the caller to be known by including the name of the calling party. Activation of the feature is limited to incoming calls from legal entities. The CST stated that the new service aims to increase the reliability of calls received by users from legal entities and ensure compatibility of communication networks with mobile phone device manufacturers.
