2023-07-30 04:01:29

Justin Gaethje passed a hard-hitting K.-O. to Dustin Poirier in the final of UFC 291 in Salt Lake City.

If Poirier had had the best during their last confrontation which had deserved the title of fight of the year in 2018, this time Gaethje ensured the triumph and offered himself the “BMF” belt for the occasion.

After a first round that showed sparks for this fight, Gaethje lifted the gathered supporters to the second assault. After throwing a punch with his right hand, he continued the movement with his foot to firmly hit Poirier in the head.

The latter collapsed in shock and the official immediately intervened to announce the end of the final following one minute in the second round.

“Unlike other sports, it’s rare that you get that second chance. I came back and believed in myself. I thank God for being on the right side this time”, humbly launched the winner of the final who wishes to have his shot for the title of the lightweight division.

Gaethje climbed onto the octagon cage and with a backflip celebrated another spectacular victory.

Pereira passes the 1st test

In the semi-finals, Alex Pereira made a successful comeback to the light heavyweights with a victory over former champion Jan Blachowicz.

Two judges awarded Pereira the victory with cards of 29-28 while the third judge saw Blachowicz winning (29-28).

Pereira started the fight by immobilizing his opponent in a guillotine while he was standing. Except that Blachowicz saw others and he turned the tide to find himself behind Pereira’s back and he tried everything to succeed in the chokehold without success.

In the second round, Blachowicz set the tone with another projection, but he lacked energy at the end of the assault which allowed Pereira to install his shots and push him back once morest the cage.

In the final round, both fighters tried to come out on top and Pereira walked out of the octagon smiling as Blachowicz appeared to challenge the judges’ score.

Derrick Lewis flies away with the K.-O.

The knockout specialist Derrick Lewis came back into action earlier in the evening with a spectacular victory over Marcos Rogério de Lima.

The powerful heavyweight puncher started the fight from the kickoff with an acrobatic volley knee that sent his rival to the mat. The American had every intention of finishing it in the following seconds and he rushed on de Lima to hammer him with blows.

De Lima turned to offer his back to his opponent as he continued to take the shots, the official ended the clash following 33 seconds.

Lewis thus recorded a 14th K.-O. on his record, a record in the UFC. He thus offered himself convincing arguments to negotiate his next contract with the organization.
