In the midst of political and economic uncertainty that has worsened in recent days with the resignation of Martin Guzman, the spokesperson for the Presidency, Gabriela Cerruti, gave a press conference this followingnoon in which he stressed that Alberto Fernández “carries out his agenda normally”.
“He is working, we are governing”, Cerruti pointed out, confirming that the president’s agenda is active. And in relation to this he added: “We don’t think regarding rumours, we leave it to those who have time. “The President is in control of the country”affirmed the spokeswoman forcefully before a journalistic question.
In this way, Cerruti dismissed all kinds of rumors linked to the President’s agenda, unleashed in the last few days following the resignation of the former Minister of Economy and following being made known today that the president met secretly last night with the vice president, Cristina Kirchner, and the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Serge Massaas confirmed to THE NATION.
Different sources in the ruling party interpreted that the changes inside the Government They haven’t finished yet and, in that sense, last night’s meeting caused expectations for new changes in the cabinet.
During the conference, Cerruti highlighted the growth registered in May in the activity of industry and construction, with increases of 11.9% and 19.9% year-on-year, respectively. He also referred to the latest government measures on the use of travel dollars and explained which imports are going to be prioritized for financing.
“In a country where you have to choose where the dollars go the Government prioritizes medicines, fertilizers for the countryside and auto parts for the automotive industry”, Cerruti specified, and indicated that “sumptuous purchases should be avoided”, in line with the latest statements by the new minister, Silvina Batakis, on travel.
“This was what the minister said and then a little volume was added to the statement,” Cerruti considered regarding the repercussions caused by Batakis’s statements.
During an interview with the Dos Voces program, the minister spoke last night regarding the lack of dollars and said that the right to travel “collides” with the generation of jobs and affirmed that all measures will be taken so that the reserves are turned over to production”.
Also, in the midst of uncertainty over the new formation of the Economy cabinet, Cerruti stated that the minister will announce the names of the officials who will accompany him in his administration “as soon as it is confirmed.”
In another part of her speech, the spokeswoman ratified the Central Bank’s decision on the ban on quotas for purchases in freeshops.
Cerruti assured that the Government hopes that “the speculative remarks of recent days” will cease. And as a result of this he pointed out: “They were generating a climate of uncertainty around a possible stampede or bullfight that didn’t happen and isn’t happening.”
When consulted by the link between the president and the vice president in the midst of the growing tensions facing the ruling party, the spokeswoman concluded: “The President speaks with the Vice President and all the officials.”
