Consistency, discipline and dedication are part of the foundations of the sporting career of Gabriel Alejandro Telo, a young oriental man who, at only 17 years of age, stands out for his skill, concentration and mastery of karate do.
With drive and focus, the Anzoatiguense has managed to stand out as a protagonist in his martial arts academy, maintaining his passion for the discipline of Japanese origin, specifically in the form of kata, a series of independent defense and attack techniques, conceived as the basis of training.
“The passion for sports has always been in me, I have loved it since I was very little. I have played all kinds of sports, not just contact sports, I also like baseball and soccer. The only thing I have done is show myself, more and more, that that passion is still intact and valid, to this day,” Telo said in an interview with journalist Liévana Sánchez.
Academic training
Gabriel received his Bachelor’s degree from Colegio San Luis, in Caracas. Thanks to his family, he obtained the necessary support to achieve his dreams, forging his personality. From his father, he inherited the methodical way of calculating each step and movement. And from his mother, the gift of communication, expressing herself with confidence and elegance.
The union leads their home. In short, “each pillar counts and is important for everyone to be sustained.” Its environment has been decisive in fulfilling its purpose. Therefore, they manage to execute their ideas and actions towards the goal, valuing each learning.
Kazuma Somoto, Ryo Kiyuna, Damián Quintero, Sandra Sánchez -the best in history in the kata category- and Antonio Díaz -Venezuelan two-time world champion- are some of its references. Although Telo is clear that he does not seek to look like anyone or do things exactly the same, he emphasizes that everyone has succeeded in this sport, which is why they are worthy of admiration.
Likewise, he says that he is a fan of the Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who belongs to the Al-Nassr FC of Saudi Arabia. “I love their mentality, philosophy and discipline, in that aspect, it is something I would like to cultivate.”
Coexistence and camaraderie
Regarding his career in the world of karate, this young man comments that the experience in each fight has been significant.
“I have managed to learn many valuable things for life, such as camaraderie, coexistence, a certain part of education, perseverance and discipline. But as my main learning, without a doubt, I am left with not giving up and getting up. Things don’t always have to be the way they are, you are the only one who can change your future and decide it.”
After debuting in several competitions, he has had multiple experiences worth telling, such as the Federated Championship in Madrid, Spain, where he won third place without scoring a single point, in the combat mode (kumite) of the -56 kilograms category. (kg).
“Passing all the rounds (zero to zero), I won by decision of the referees. I went to the semifinal, which I lost one to zero and then in the play-off, I won again by referee’s ruling, remaining zero to zero.”

A day in Gabriel’s life begins at 8:30 in the morning, when he has breakfast and activates to go out to succeed. As soon as you hear your alarm, you get ready and put on your outfit, ideal for jogging and barre, near your home. At the end of lunch, enjoy interesting readings, linked to trading or current competitions, many of them captured in karate do blogs.

And the best thing is that he shares it with the little ones, whom he assists in the children’s class. Obviously, the day closes with combat, in order to perfect the Kata, before returning home.
Optimism and improvement
To his followers and training partners, he wants to advise them to “do what you love, regardless of what it is. It is the only thing that will guarantee you happiness in all aspects, if you can do what you like and if you can’t, find a way to do it, because there is always a way to achieve it.”
