The Head of the Muslim Community of Gabon, Abdul Razzak Kabongo, at the end of a solemn meeting organized on November 4, 2024 in Libreville, called on his brothers and sisters in the faith to vote for “yes” during the referendum of November 16 to approve the new Gabonese constitution, which, he emphasizes, has Koranic values and principles.
“Our support for the new constitution is a commitment to a Gabon of peace, justice and progress; it is an opportunity for us to show our love for our country and to demonstrate our attachment to the values of justice and equality that our faith advocates”exhorted M. Kabongo.
For Abdul Razzak Guy Kabongo, the Muslims of Gabon must not remain on the sidelines of the process of change taking place in the country, since the arrival of the President of the Transition General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema on August 30, 2023. They must take an active part in not, he says, enduring history. Everyone was invited to immerse themselves in the content of this fundamental law.
The meeting, the theme of which was: “significant contribution of the Muslim community to the development of Gabon towards happiness”, gave a glimpse of the unity within this religious congregation in leadership crisis for more than a year . Both camps were present.
Iman Benyamin Andjoua Obolo who leads the other wing of the community was present at the ceremony. As with washing laundry at home, it was recommended to the governing bodies of the Superior Council of Islamic Affairs of Gabon (CSAIG) to bring structural reforms within the community by implementing “an integrated office for members of the Muslim community without distinction of camps, in accordance with the wishes of the highest authorities of the country”.
