Gabonese clubs “disqualified” from African competitions in 2025

No Gabonese club will play an African competition in 2025, according to the new timetable for the resumption of the national championship announced Friday to club presidents by the Minister of Sports, André Jacques Augand.

According to the new schedule, the championship was to resume on April 20 and end next August. However, the clubs which must participate in African competitions, namely the CAF Cup and the African Champions League, must be known between June and July.

« The championship will be played over five months and might start no later than April 20, 2024, but without taking into account CAF deadlines because Gabon will not register any club in African cups. », Said President Alaba Fall, president of the AO CMS following the meeting with the minister.

Gabon will still be in competition when the list of qualified clubs is closed at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) level.

We recall that on February 22, the Minister of Sports brought together the football clubs, men’s and women’s versions, to announce the resumption of the national football championship on March 30. Unfortunately for logistical reasons, particularly financial ones.

The Gabonese football championship is entirely financed by the State. Hence the stops and suspensions of the competition each time the State is late in payment.

This year, the State has planned a subsidy of 2.2 billion FCFA for the National Football League (LINAF) and 1.4 billion FCFA for the National Women’s Football League (LINAFFEM).
