Gabonese army acquires Chinese armored vehicles –

China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO), a Chinese company specializing in the export of arms manufactured in the People’s Republic of China, recently delivered several armored vehicles and other military equipment to the Gabonese army, Gabonactu.com has learned.

The number of armored vehicles and the exact list of military equipment delivered by the Chinese company have not been made public. However, during a ceremony on August 8, at Camp Baraka in Libreville, the President of the Transition, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma officially handed over to the Gabonese armed forces several pieces of military equipment, including more than ten armored vehicles equipped with a large cannon.

During the ceremony, the head of the delegation of NORINCO, a company founded in 1980, which came to deliver the armored vehicles made in China, was decorated by the Gabonese number one.

« The aim of this audience is to present the materials we have delivered and to discuss with the President how to deepen cooperation between our two countries. “, declared the head of the delegation at the end of an audience with the President of the Transition.

The Chinese delegation did not specify whether this was a commercial operation or a donation to the Gabonese army.

China is considering establishing a naval base in the vicinity of Port-Gentil, according to concordant sources.

In July 2023, 3 warships of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy docked at the new port of Owendo on the outskirts of Libreville. These are three warships that are part of the ETG 162 flotilla which is the 43rd Escort Flotilla in the Gulf of Aden with about 700 sailors on board.

On July 24, the Gabonese Minister of Defense participated in a ceremony at the Chinese Embassy to mark the 97thth anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.

Libreville sends several of its officers for training at the war school in China.
