The secular arm of the State in the optimal organization of the festivities relating to Gabon’s accession to international sovereignty, the National Committee for Independence Celebrations (CNFI), also called “Gabon Independence”, held its penultimate technical meeting on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Libreville City Hall to refine the adopted strategy and ensure good organization of the 64th country’s birthday on August 17.

Under the chairmanship of Pascal Yama Lendoye, head of the CNFI, the working session reviewed the work of all the subcommittees (security, health, communication, transport, accommodation and sport/culture). From the careful examination carried out, it emerges from the members of Gabon Independence during their various contributions, a total satisfaction with the work already carried out overall.

“In view of the remarkable work already done, we can applaud ourselves”rejoiced Mr. Yama Lendoye closing the adjustment meeting before announcing that the last one is scheduled for August 13.

For the celebration of 64th anniversary of Gabon’s independence, 12 Heads of State are expected in Libreville alongside their counterpart, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. All stakeholders are involved to prepare for any eventuality.

“We have seen with the security subcommittee all the measures that could be taken to ensure good organization in terms of security, the prevention of unforeseen events that may occur,” said Sylvain Lindzondzo-Dina, event consultant.

Overall, 05 ambulances will be mobilized for the medical coverage of the event. In each ambulance, there will be two doctors with two nurses, a team member and a paramedic. Other teams will already be working in the selected hospitals (the Libreville University Hospital, the Owendo University Hospital, the Omar Bongo Ondimba army training hospital). About fifty Red Cross volunteers will also be mobilized to support the organization’s medical and paramedical teams.

For Professor Jean Felix Ngomas Moukady, president of the Health subcommittee of Gabon Independence, in addition to the ambulances announced above, “there will also be ambulances which will each serve as an advanced medical post for first aid in the field.”

Headaches, fatigue, hypoglycemia and others are among the incidents that this subcommittee often faces in each edition. Given the enthusiasm that this event could generate in this period of transition marked by the coup d’état (liberation coup) described as a salvation by the Gabonese population on August 30, 2023, CNFI wants to be alert and resilient.

However, the organizers fear that due to this euphoria, cases of aggression, fights, injuries and accidents could occur in the nine provinces of the country.
