Gabon: 70% access to ARVs

In Gabon, 70% of people living with HIV have access to ARV treatment, according to epidemiological data communicated in mid-July by the UNAIDS country office. According to the UN institution, people living with HIV are estimated at 46,000 in the country. Some 36,000 people or 82% know their status and 25,375 or 70% have access to ARV treatment, said Françoise Ndayishimiye, UNAIDS representative in Gabon. In addition to access to ARVs, UNAIDS has noted progress in the care of PLHIV in the country, underlines Gabon News. Adviser to the institution, Emmanuel Patrick Efame Eya noted that more and more PLHIV have access to viral load measurements. “We can already congratulate ourselves because before we did not have a large number of people who might do the viral load, but today we have still been able to reach more than 10,000 people who have access with more than 6,000 who have an undetectable viral load. These are reports that are encouraging,” said the adviser. These encouraging results should not make us forget that the country has still not reached the UNAIDS “95 95 95” targets.
