“We are happy to have him on the team, we will be able to welcome him in the best possible way and we will give him the best possible welcome into our Trapani Shark family,” said coach Repesa regarding the signing.
From Michigan State to the NBA and Italy
Gabriel Thomas Brown, known as Gabe, was born in Ypsilanti (Michigan) on March 5, 2000.
He honed his skills at Belleville High School before being recruited by Michigan State University. In his freshman year, Brown helped the Spartans reach the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. He concluded his college career with impressive averages of 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and a 38.2% three-point shooting percentage.
Chasing NBA Dreams
Following his success at Michigan State, Brown entered the 2022 NBA Draft. He showcased his abilities at the NBA Summer League in both Salt Lake City and Las Vegas with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Later that year, he signed an “Exhibit 10 contract” with the Toronto Raptors. While he spent the season with their G League affiliate, the Raptors 905 Missisauga, Brown gained valuable experience, averaging 12.5 points (shooting 41.0% from beyond the arc) and 3.1 rebounds in 30 appearances.
European Debut and a Return to Form
The summer of 2023 saw Brown make the jump to Europe, signing with Varese Basketball in Italy. In his first year overseas, Brown flourished in the Italian championship, averaging 12 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1 assist in 30 games.
His impressive performance earned him a contract renewal for the 2023-2024 season. This season, Brown continued his strong play in the six games he participated in, averaging 11.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 22 minutes per game. He showcased his scoring prowess by shooting 52% from two-point range and an impressive 49% from three-point territory. Notably, on October 19th, Brown exploded for 31 points against Trapani Shark.
